FAQs

Hopefully this list will answer any questions you have, if not please click here to get in touch and we will do our best to answer.

Are your toilets and showers open? Yes, please see our http://twiteystipis.co.uk/covid-19/ page for current information on COVID measures.

What size pitch do I need? We have two sizes of pitch, oversized and standard. Our pitches are circular, plus they contain a fire firepit in the ground about 1-1.5m in from the entrance.  Your tent needs to be a least 2m away from the fire.  Remember prices are per person, so you can have as many tents as you like providing they will fit on  pitch. Please ensure you select the correct size pitch for your unit as during busy times we may not be able to upgrade you to a larger pitch.

Standard pitches are approximately 10m in diameter.  Suitable for small 2-4 berth tents less than 4.5m in length. A typical family 6 person tent and above won’t fit on a standard pitch and will be too close to the fire pit to enable you to have a fire.

Oversized pitches are approximately 14m in diameter, for tents over 5m in length. Typical 6 – 8 man tents up to 8m.

Orchard pitches are smaller than a standard pitch, we recommend no more than 4 people with a max tent size of approx. 4 x 2 m or a couple of 2-3 person tents.

Look at our Pitch Size Guide to give you an idea.

As we charge per person, you can have as many tents as you like on a pitch, providing they can fit without putting guy ropes into the long grass.  If you are still unsure please send an email but include your tent’s dimensions.

Can I add extra people to my booking? Please email us with full information on numbers – adults, children (6-16) years old and any additional cars.  We will get back you on how best to proceed.

Can I park next to my pitch? – No vehicles of any description be they car, trailer, van, motorbike etc. can be driven on the camping meadows. We provide wheelbarrows for transporting your gear to the pitch.  This lack of vehicles makes it safer, we wouldn’t be able to have fires with a car parked on the pitch. It is also safer for the children too and there is no disturbance from headlights, engine noise, indicators and car doors closing especially late at night. Cars must only be parked in the car parks including for off loading your gear.

Can I bring extra cars?  Yes, additional cars can be added when you book, select this is in the extra’s menu.

Can we go in the long grass? No, this is what helps makes the site so lovely and is valuable wildlife habitat.  The grass is host to grass snakes, hedgehogs, shrew, voles, insects, nesting birds, planted saplings etc. It also provides some privacy between pitches. Please stick to the mown pathways.

Do you allow campfires/barbecues? Each pitch has its own sunken fire-pit, after all what is camping without sitting around a campfire toasting marshmallows and looking at the stars.  Please take a look at our Camp Fires page. Please keep a BBQ raised off the ground (we have bricks if needed) to prevent burn marks. You can also buy BBQ’s in our shop or hire them out for the night. We do not provide open fire cooking equipment.

Can I check in early/late ? Generally yes, but please email to check first. You may arrive whilst we are taking lunch, so we won’t necessarily be available or this may not be possible due to the workload and how busy the site is. Please try and check in before 19:30, if you are going to be late or early let us know.  We may not be available to meet and greet you outside of the check in time and may need to advise you on what to do when you arrive by phone.

Can I have a late check out? Please ask when you arrive, it will depend on how busy we are as someone else may be going on your pitch.

Do you allow day visitors? As of 09/07/2020 We regret we have temporarily suspended visitors to site.  We have reduced the number of pitches by a third to reduce the number of people on site and we are getting unusually high demand for day visitors which has led us to take this step, plus we have limited availability for parking.

Can I bring a dog? We’re sorry, as much as we love dogs, we cannot allow them on site. This is due in part to agricultural activities surrounding us.

What do we do with our rubbish? There is a large bin in the car park.  Our service provider takes this away and recovers the recycling.  Please make sure you separate different materials, for example blue tops on clear plastic bottles. Under no circumstance can we take camping equipment.

Do you have electric hook up?  No, this is meadow tent camping. we pride ourselves on providing a traditional campsite There is a socket you can use to charge a phone.

Can I bring a generator? Sorry no, even a ‘silent’ generator still produces some noise, which would be likely to cause a nuisance. There is a socket you can use to charge a phone.

Do you have wifi?  – No, sorry no wifi but the 4G here is usually very good on EE (please check with your own service provider).

Is there lighting on site? The Kitchen, showers and pot washing area along with the shop have lighting from dusk until approximately 22:30.  For all other areas including the toilets, car parks, meadows etc. please bring a torch. By not providing lighting we are helping cut down on light pollution and carbon emissions.  This also helps with enjoying the starry sky whilst you are here and enhances the feeling of remoteness.

Can our under 18’s camp without adult supervision? Usually we welcome young adults, although we do have a parental consent form for you to complete. Please email us with details before booking.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay in the yurt. It was amazing! The beds were really comfortable and the fire pit was a hit! It was really handy having the outdoor kitchen too. Our little girls loved every minute! John was very friendly too.
